This gallery presents a selection of photos from Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture, Japan.

The main attraction of this historic town is the ‘Bikan District’, an old merchant quarter dating back to the Edo period, consisting of wooden warehouses along a canal framed with weeping willows.

Color photos taken with digital cameras; b&w photos taken with Nikon FE2 and Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 on Ilford HP5 Plus 400 Film.

    Really enjoyed going through your photos of Kurashiki, I really like the images of the bridges over the river, the torri gates and the sense of perspective in the streets.

    I”ve been in Japan 10 years and haven”t even been to Okayama, what a waste.

      thanks a lot for your nice comment, it does mean a lot to me coming from someone like you. Kurashiki is definitely worth a visit, and if you have a chance to see it while you are still in Japan, I suggest you do :)

    Beautiful serie of a wonderfull village. It feels like stepping back in time when houses where still pieces of art . Looks so peacefull. Your photos makes you want to book a ticket to Japan right now ;)
