Autumn at Seiryoji Temple, Sagano, Kyoto, Japan

京都・嵯峨野・清凉寺

Seiryōji is a Buddhist temple in the Sagano area of Kyoto, Japan. The temple is known for its sandalwood image of Shaka (Shakyamuni), the historical Buddha.

In autumn, the changing colors of the foliage add a lively touch to the pleasant and quaint temple premises.

Photos #2,3,4,5,6,9,10 shot with Fujifilm X-E2 and Fujinon XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 lens.
Photos #1,7,8 shot with iPhone 5.
All photos edited in Lightroom 5.7.

The approach to Seiryoji leads along a road traversing a pleasant residential area with some small shops, …

… at the end of which the temple’s main gate is inviting the visitor to enter the premises.

The view goes towards the Main Hall, also known as ‘Shakadō’.

Most of the maple trees in the gardens of Seiryoji are at the peak of their autumnal color …

… and the light is not too bad, either, …

… allowing to capture many a pleasant detail.

I am not the only visitor to enjoy this splendid autumn setting, …

… walking through a garden that holds new explosions of autumn color in store at every corner, …

… harmoniously blending with the classic architecture of the temple buildings.

As I am planning to visit a few more temples in this area, I wrap up my visit to Seiryoji, and exit through its old main gate.
