Tübingen is a beautiful historic university town in Southwestern Germany, around 30 km (19 mi.) south of Stuttgart.
Developed and scanned by Carmencita Film Lab.
A good place to start a walk around town is at the Neckar Waterfront.
Besides affording a view of some of the city’s oldest buildings, this is also the spot for watching (or joining for a ride on) the “Stocherkahn” boats on the Neckar river. During summer season, the boats are navigated by long wooden poles, as shown in this next photo taken from the Eberhard Bridge.
Walking into the old town, we come across many a nice street corner, …
… and we reach the historic Market Square with the City Hall, whose original structure dates back to the year 1435.
Adjacent to Market Square, Marktgasse is home to shops and restaurants, …
… whereas to the southern end of the square, Wienergäßle connects to the City Archive and the Protestant Monastery.
Walking behind the City Hall in western direction, we reach Haaggasse, where we find Antiques shops, …
… parked motorcycles, …
… and a blend of half-timbered buildings – some used as restaurants and shops, others as private homes.
Continuing on our short loop, we have now reached the lower end of Marktgasse, …
… from where we proceed to the Nonnenhaus. The building dates back to the late 15th century, and used to be a home for lay nuns.
We complete our walk where we started, taking one more look at the Neckar Waterfront. There is still some lighter traffic happening on the river 🙂
