Temple staff is seen performing some final cleaning outside the main gate of Shimogamo Jinja on the day of the Aoi Matsuri (葵祭), a major festival held every year on May 15th in Kyoto, Japan. The festival’s main attraction is a large parade, in which more than 500 people dressed in Heian Period (794-1185) costumes walk from Kyoto Imperial Palace to Shimogamo and Kamigamo Shrines.
