Around the Corner, Hikone, Japan

During the ascent to Hikone Castle (彦根城) in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, the main castle keep comes into view after walking past a grand fortification wall. Hikone Castle is an original castle, i.e. it survived the post-feudal era without experiencing any destruction or reconstruction. It is also one of only four castles in Japan designated as a “National Treasure”.
