Day 14 of my first Japan trip in 2006 was the last full day spent in Kyoto. After breakfast 20 years ago today, I went up Kyoto Tower - I had switched hotels, and my new hotel came with a coupon for the observatory. Views were enjoyable, I particularly liked zooming in on the modern architecture of JR Kyoto Station.

I then went to see Kinkakuji, the “Golden Pavilion” in northern Kyoto whose upper two floors are completely covered in gold leaf.

In the later afternoon, I went back to Ninenzaka slope underneath Kiyomizudera Temple. I ran into this group of visitors who had been dressing and making up as Maiko for the day.

In the evening, I took the train for a short ride to Osaka, where I checked into my next hotel as a base for the activities of day 15.
