Day 2 of my first-ever trip to Japan in 2006 was strongly cherry-blossom themed, and entirely spent in Tokyo. In the morning, I rode the subway to Kudanshita and went to Kitanomaru Park north of the Imperial Palace. There was a considerable amount of boat traffic on the moat, with visitors enjoying nature’s seasonal display.

I then went to Shinjuku Gyoen, one of central Tokyo’s biggest parks. A lot of people were enjoying picnics underneath blossoming cherry trees, and almost every visitor took pictures of the blossoms.

In some corners of the park, the more serious photography enthusiasts had brought their full gear of tripods and telephoto lenses, and were working hard to get the best shots of the cherry blossoms.

In the evening, I met for dinner with some friends from an online photography community. One of them was based in Tokyo, and after the meal showed us around Yurakucho, where I was lucky to have a salaryman pose for my camera, much to the amusement of his colleagues.
